Professor Dr. Babette Simon is Associate Professor at the Medical Faculty Paris Descartes and former Managing Director and Regional Vice President of Medtronic Germany. Prior she has held the position of the Chief Medical Officer and Chairwomen of the University Medical Center Mainz and as the President of the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, establishing a novel European Medical School in cooperation with the Dutch University Groningen She has wide national and international experience across the health system in non-private and private organizations with a strong focus on innovation management and value in health. An area of special activity is emerging technologies and their implementation to further advance quality and safety of patient care and self-health management. She is a member of the University Council of the Technical University Dresden and the University of Applied Sciences Fulda, the Scientific Advisory Board of the Private Excellence Initiative Johanna Quandt, the GEOMAR Board of Trustees and chairs the LBG scientific advisory board. She served as a member of the scientific commission and medical committee of the German Council of Science and Humanities, the Senate of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the Supervisory Boards of the University Hospital Düsseldorf, the Technology & Start-up Centre Oldenburg and the TRON Translational Oncology Mainz, the Council of the Institute for Information Technology (OFFIS) and chaired the shareholder meeting Hearing Aid System Technology. She received her medical degree and doctorate from the University of Freiburg, graduated in Business Administration and Management in Health Care from the University of Mannheim/Heidelberg and completed a Research fellowship in Molecular Biology at the MGH, Harvard Medical School. She was trained in Internal Medicine with a specialization in Gastroenterology, acquired special qualification in emergency medicine, nutritional medicine and radiation protection, and headed the Molecular Biology Research Laboratory with a focus on GI Oncology at the University Hospital Marburg, where she holds an extraordinary professorship. She is the author of numerous international and national publications, invited lectures and review activities.
